Its 11,512 acres are bordered to the north by the River Dee – one of the world’s most famous salmon fishing rivers –as it flows east from its source in the high peaks of the Cairngorms.
It is neighboured on three sides by the Balmoral and Birkhall Estates, which have been the Scottish home of the Queen and the Royal Family since 1852. Balmoral Castle lies just to the west of Abergeldie; Birkhall, the home of the Prince of Wales at Balmoral, just to the east.
Abergeldie is itself part of the Cairngorms National Park – a glory of wilderness across more than 4,500sq km, home to four of the five highest mountains in the UK and around 60 lochs.
And of course you’re in malt whisky country: many of Scotland’s globally renowned distilleries are close by. And the estate itself neighbours the Royal Lochnagar Distillery, which has been producing its own distinctive brand of whisky for nearly 200 years.
The picturesque Victorian village of Ballater – intrinsically linked with the Royal Family for generations – is only a few miles away. As is Braemar, the gateway village to the Cairngorms and home to an internationally famous Highland Games gathering attended annually by the Royal Family.
Scotland’s capital city, Edinburgh, is just over 100 miles away, with Europe’s energy capital, Aberdeen, just 45 miles away. Aberdeen’s international airport offers key links to cities and air transport hubs around Europe. Abergeldie, however, is a world away from the hustle and bustle of city life. A majestic world away.
